Italian Citrus Market Update - Nov 06, 2011

Bergamot

It is expected the crops this year will be much improved on those of last. The conditions throughout the year have been good but we should remember that over the past few years the crop hasn't been strong and that we'll be entering this new season without any carry-over stocks. Although abp feels this essential oil will be easier to secure this year, buyers around the world will have the opportunity to secure larger volumes than before keeping demand high and prices stable.

Mandarin

The crop of Green Mandarin is now complete and as is becoming more and more common now, the quantity was small. The reason for this is due to many producers removing these plantations as the Italian producers have been unable to compete with the strong competition from South America.

Yellow Mandarin harvesting is currently in progress and the outlook is good. For Red Mandarin it is too early to predict.

Lemon

Although it is early to speculate, the availability of Lemons is looking good. Of course too many factors may come into play before the harvesting starts late December but for now the Italian crops look healthy. The potential issue for the oil production is the price of the fruits may be too high creating a price differential between the Italian and South American oil.

We will update you again on the Italian Citrus Oil market towards the end of this year.
